Adapalene in Acne Treatment
Adapalene in acne treatment is a very effective topical retinoid used in acne which is claimed to be less irritant than other topical retinoids. The mode of action of adapalene in acne treatment is suggested to be a normalization of differentiation of follicular epithelial cells resulting in decreased microcomedonal formation. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. Adapalene in acne treatment is indicated in the treatment of comedones, papules and pustules in acne. Mode of application of Adapalane in Acne Treatment: Adapalene should be applied to the acne affected areas once a day before retiring to bed at night, after washing and drying the area. A thin film of the gel should be applied, taking care to avoid eyes and lips. Adverse Effects of Adapalene in Acne Treatment: Although mostly mild, dryness, erythema, burning, or pruritus(itching) were experienced by 10-50% of patients using adapalene depending upon the formulation. Concomitant use of irritating products like medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers, cosmetics that have a strong drying effect, and products with high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, spices, or lime rind should be avoided along with adapalene.
