Tips on Care of Dry Skin

Tips on Care of Dry Skin

  • Dry skin should be kept moist as far as possible.
  • This is done by applying moisturizers immediately after bath or wash.
  • Use glycerine based soaps and cleansing milks. Avoid medicated soaps.
  • Humectants, which contain glycerin, propylene glycol, urea, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid are best suited for the dry skin. They work by drawing moisture out of the air and trapping it on the skin.
  • Toners should be avoided, as these may increase dryness and cause irritation.
  • Moisturizers containing exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids help the moisture retention by getting rid of dead dry, superficial scales.
  • For palms and soles, more occlusive products like vaseline is required.
  • Housewives should take care to avoid frequent washing by changing their kitchen habits. Frequent application of cooking oils and use of cotton lined gloves will help in avoiding excess dryness and irritation of the skin.
